TECHNICAL REPORT MODALITY
The technical report is the final product of a study (applied research or technical production) that describes the problem situation in the organizational context and the result of the associated prescriptive solution in a precise and objective way. A technical report presents the results of an organization’s administrative, technical, or managerial intervention carried out with methodological criteria. These academic works prioritize the description of learning in presenting practical results and learning from experiences lived by organizations/professionals involved in processes that can be managed/improved through specific management techniques. Therefore, it must be written based on scientific and methodological rigor.
Guidance for recording and developing the technical report:
– It should privilege prescriptive knowledge, that is, propose (or prescribe) solutions to problems faced by organizations;
– It should be aimed at solving problems practically, even if based on applied disciplines;
– Must have the mission of developing knowledge about what is relevant to solving problems in their field of research.
Suggested structure for the technical report:
The technical report follows the format of a short scientific article (minimum of seven and maximum of sixteen pages), including illustrations and references.
Work content:
STRUCTURED SUMMARY (submission page):
When submitting the report, on the paper submission page (step 1), the Structured Abstract must be filled in, which includes:
Title of the work (in Portuguese): capital letters.
Title of work (in English): capital letters.
Abstract: structured summary of the technical report includes the following items and must have up to 250 words in its composition:
Study objective
Relevance/originality
Methodology/approach
Main results
Theoretical/methodological contributions
Social/management contributions
Keywords: minimum three (3), maximum five (5).
Abstract: must be registered in the exact parameters of the abstract in Portuguese.
Keywords: must be registered in the exact parameters of the keywords in Portuguese.
Suggested structure of the work (textual part): PDF file – the following structure is recommended (Biancolino, Kniess, Maccari, & Rabechini Jr., 2012):
* Do not include the structured summary in the PDF, as it will be generated from the system.
Introduction: The introduction must present the study’s context and/or problem situation. It should be brief and precise, explaining the report, what intervention was made in the organization, and what will be analyzed, explaining the problem to be solved/reported. The report’s purpose must be made clear to the reader, how the research was carried out, or how the authors interpreted the information to arrive at the report. It is advisable to show the sequence of sections of the report.
Theoretical Reference: A theoretical reference must be presented related to the intervention made in the organization. This framework frames the report from a theoretical point of view and provides comparisons with existing theory.
Methodology: it must be explained in detail how the technical report was made, that is, if it was carried out only based on the professional and practical experience of the student/researcher, or if other interactions/participations (of other professionals) were necessary to achieve the purpose. It is worth noting what professional skills were used to observe, analyze and solve the problem and what approach was used (direct observation, direct participation, etc.). It is necessary to clarify the problem to be reported. The method must consider primary and secondary information that needs to be qualified.
Results obtained and analysis: It must contain: Characterization of the organization and the analyzed problem; Type of intervention and mechanisms adopted; Description of the results obtained, Analysis of the results by the authors, and Confrontation with the revised theory in the theoretical framework. Answer the following question: What are the most relevant contributions to the topics covered in the report? Its relevance to similar cases should be included, and what kind of professional teaching this reported experience should be shared in the community of professionals.
Conclusions/Concluding Remarks: should show the reader arguments that it was possible to achieve the objectives initially proposed. Here, it is appropriate to present proposals for companies/projects that find situations similar to the one described. In addition, the aspects that limited the work must be mentioned. Finally, new ideas for reports or works of a technical/professional nature must be explained.
